Flight Prices Getting Higher??

I'm planning a trip to Germany in March. Two months ago the flights were very reasonable ($700 or so); they've been inching upwards ever since. Lufthansa is now $1100.

I know you can't guess prices, but what are typically the trends? My trip is still 5 months away. I'm debating whether to go ahead and buy my tickets now or wait and see if prices will get lower.

I would expect airlines to have sales on late winter fares--it seems to me these are some of the best fares I see all year.

Airlines have cut capacity so seats are selling. Seats are selling means higher prices.

While no one can predict where fares will go, January is usually a good month for buying tickets. Keep an eye out and when they drop in price, buy.

I received an e mail from Lufthansa today promoting a 3 day sale to destinations in Europe. Need to purchase tickets by 10-29 and depart by 3-28-10. Had to edit the departure date. Posted 09 in error. Below is the link.

I think some of you are waiting on the "fire sale" and it may not happen.

The airlines have actually cut a LOT of capacity to Europe over the past year which means.. they don't have to go as low to sell fewer seats.

Combined with the "creep" in taxes...

(For example that great deal Steve posted on AirCanada... the taxes were $300 on a $250 fare when I played around with it)

Carol, I purchased on that Air Canada sale and got my return flight to CDG (from YYZ) for $585 CAD. I didn't think I'd get a flight in the 500s these days.

I'm planning a family trip with about 10 relatives to France and Germany, when would be a good time to start looking for plane tickets? I've read as soon as possible, and wait till a few weeks before...
