I started tracking a Delta flight on June 9th, checking daily and then yesterday, poof, it's gone! And there is another flight to my destination, but the layover is much longer. Can I hope that the flight I was tracking will come back? And if I had purchased that flight I wanted, would I just then be moved to the only available flight now? Crap.
Was it a WestJet flight?
They are cancelling flights because of possible impending strike action.

SJ, I should have named the airline. I have edited my post.

If it isn’t showing on the Delta site, I doubt it will come back. Is the flight in November or later? If so, Delta may have traded their slot to another airline for the winter season.

If you had purchased, they probably would have moved you to a different flight and given you the option for a free change or possibly a refund (depending on how significant the change was).
Yes, I agree with Laura. Delta will automatically rebook but you can cancel with a refund if it's a big flight change.
Currently dealing with a Delta flight change - they are routing me thru SLC instead of Seattle because a late afternoon flight from SEA to Spokane has disappeared in late October. Currently trying to decide if I will go with the rebooked flight which only has 1h15 minutes to go thru Immigration/Security in SLC or ask to be changed back to Seattle with a longer layover. I can buy up to Delta One much cheaper on the CDG-> SLC flight and I might make that 1h15m transit if I'm Delta One.
BTW, I believe many Delta changes are made on Saturdays so I check my flights on Sunday mornings.
I was going to ask the same as SJ. WestJet and Delta do codeshare so that could be it. Last Fall I had a return flight from to DC booked and about 2 months before the trip my return flight was cancelled and not rebooked, but my flight to DC was still booked. It was WestJet and I had to call and my return trip was rescheduled through Delta.
In 2022 I had a flight from Calgary to Halifax to Glasgow. A few months before the trip the Halifax to Glasgow leg was cancelled, but I was automatically rebooked from Calgary to Toronto to Halifax- completely ignoring the fact that my ultimate destination was Glasgow. I called and it was explained to me that when these changes happen, your flight is automatically changed by a non-human and it only looks at one flight at a time; not the whole itinerary.
So to answer your question.......maybe. The system is supposed to try to rebook you, but it's important to take the bull by the horns, do some research and then call and tell the airline what you want the solution to be.
Pam and Allan, I had not booked the flight yet, I was just tracking the fares and waiting for a good one before I purchased. My original flight I was tracking was through CDG and then to Sevilla, Spain on Air France. Now, the flight goes through Amsterdam and flies to Sevilla on Transvania airline (never heard of it).
FYI -- Transavia is a low-cost airline owned by KLM which operates short-haul routes, such as Amsterdam-Seville.
Tammy, I’ve flown Transavia multiple times with no issues. I think AMS is a better airport to connect through than CDG, so the only downside might be the long layover.
This has happened to me a couple times and both times it was a flight from Seattle with Delta. The flight I was booked on was eliminated and then I was moved to a different (less desirable) flight. I'm always a little leary when I see the seat map with very few seats taken.
I think we flew Transvania from Amsterdam to Malaga, Spain in February. Our flights were switched at least once after I purchased them. But, the day of our flights, Spokane was in heavy fog, so the dominos of the first delayed flight changed all of our subsequent flights, and that last leg became Transvania.
By the way, the Transvania flight was requiring almost everyone to give up their carry on suitcase. So, it’s a good idea to have any of your items already transferred to your personal item just in case that happens. One guy was throwing a huge tantrum. Of course, it didn’t change his outcome. ; )
Jean, where did you go after Malaga?
Using Google Flights, I have had flights be there, disappear, and then come back. It was Lufthansa, not Delta, so not sure if it’s the same or not.
