I have heard that it is a long train ride from Venice to Naples and considering taking a plane. Does anyone know of any discount airlines that fly from Venice to Naples.

Have you checked Europebyair.com? I found a flight from Naples to Venice for $99 pp.

There are two airlines that fly from Naples to Venice, Airone and Alitalia. Alpi Eagle used to fly there, but I am not sure now. The airfare is around 68 euro one way.

Fly Airone, I've heard good things about them (they're a subsidiary of Lufthansa) and unlike Alitalia are at almost zero risk of running into financial problems.

Since it's a long train ride, you might consider traveling overnight. There is a direct night train that leaves Venezia Santa Lucia at 00:04 and arrives at Napoli Centrale at 10:00. You can also leave Venezia Santa Lucia at 19:57, arrive in Bologna at 22:04, leave at 00:44, and arrive at Napoli at 08:10. The Bologna-Napoli leg is a night train.

Just for info, train rides to Naples from Venice can take up to 8.0hrs with 2-3 train changes. There is one run that leaves Venice at 10:43am and takes 6hrs. 10min. No train changes.
