Flight Connection Time in Dublin

Our flight from Rome to Dublin has been changed to leave only 55 minutes connection time for a flight home to Chicago. There seems to be no other good options available for more connection time. Is 55 minutes going to be enough? Any suggestions?

More info please. Are you changing airlines? If not, you may be okay. If you are changing airlines, you could have a problem.

Tom,

If you're worried, call the airline, and ask them to look up the minimum connection time is DUB for an International to International connection. If the connection is under this time, ask them to re-accommodate you.

As the last poster said, same airline you're probably ok, if not... that's kinda cutting it close.

We are changing from RyanAir to Aer Lingus but will only have carry on baggage. I've tried looking for flight alternatives, but there is nothing that will get me there earlier, even with different commecting cities. I'm resolved to staying with the reservation as is with a worst case that I will be stuck in Dublin for a day or two...worse places to be stuck!

Three things to remember:
1. Have your Aer Lingus boarding card printed BEFORE you arrive in Dublin (ie. do it on-line the night before you leave).
2. In the baggage claim area DON'T exit through customs as you'll encounter the a long queue to get back in via the security checkpoint. When you get into baggage claim go all the way down past the number 1 baggage area, there's a hidden access point to get you through security faster.
3. It's usually a good distance from Ryanair arrival gate to Aer Lingus departure gates. It's possible to do it but if you have any kind of disability it will be very difficult.

And as above call the airline and see what they say before you go.

Budget airlines like Ryanair and Aer Lingus have very strict check-in deadlines. If you don't have a boarding pass in hand when that deadline arrives, you will not be allowed on the plane. Here is a quote from the Aer Lingus Web site:

"Check-in for all flights closes 45 minutes prior to departure. Passengers who do not comply with Check-in Deadlines will not be accepted for travel. They may change their booking up until the flight they were booked on has departed, thereafter it will be treated as a 'no-show' and the booking will be forfeited."

The ONLY CHANCE you have of making this connection--and it's still a very slim one--is to do what Francis suggests. Check in online and print your boarding pass yourself. IMO, you would be extremely foolish to try to make this connection.
