Hey! I'm looking at taking a flight on Icelandair from Minneapolis to Reykjavik, arriving at 6:35am. I will book a separate round trip ticket taking me from Reykjavik to London (I will end up spending a few days in Reykjavik on my way back from London, before heading back to Minneapolis). Easyjet has a flight leaving Reyjkavik the same day at 9:35am. Since I will have to go through customs, immigration control and switch flights, do you think this leaves me enough time? I've been to this airport before and know it's pretty small and manageable, but I don't want to be pushing it in terms of making my next flight. But if I don't take that flight, I'll have to wait until the next day and I'd rather not have to do that as it really throws off my plans. Thoughts or suggestions? Thank you!!
Emily I'm curious why you are not just staying with Icelandair to London. They have a flight that leaves at 7:40 am from Reykjavik. I did this flight last summer except started in Seattle. We got off the plane and walked to the departure gate and got on the plane to London with plenty of time. There was no customs or immigration until we arrived in London.
Does Icelandair still have that promotion that allows you to layover in Reykjavik for a few days before continuing on your journey?
Yes, you can just stay over in Iceland on Icelandic, or travel on directly at no extra charge.
Thanks for all of the quick replies! To reply to and answer your questions: I'm not going directly to London on Icelandair because it's actually cheaper to book the two separate round trip flights, which then also allows me the flexibility to stay in Reykjavik a few days on my way home. This then leads me to the comments about taking advantage of the Icelandair option of adding a stopover in Reyjkavik. This option is available, and I looked at it, but that was also more expensive than the two separate round trips flights, plus it seems like the stopover is supposed to be on the way through Iceland at the beginning of my trip, rather than at the end-which is when I can do it. Thanks!
I double checked on the Icelandair stopover and it looks like I actually could do the stopover on my way back home, but it's still more expensive. Here are the differences in prices I'm looking at: Minneapolis to Reykjavik roundtrip on Icelandair $787 Reykjavik to London roundtrip on Easyjet $281
Total: $1068 Minneapolis to London with stopover in Reykjavik on the way home on Icelandair: $1385 I know sometimes it's worth it to pay a little more in order to simplify travel and make it a little more convenient, but I'm traveling for 6-7 weeks and that additional $300 would make a big difference spread out. Thank you again!
