This is more a For Your Information alert than a question. As many people use this line, I thought it would be worth mentioning. A serious landslide completely closed off the Gotthard railway between Ticino and the rest of Switzerland. Works to reopen the place are expected to last 30 days. As so, there is severe disruption on all traffic to/from Milano and Ticino to Zürich, Luzern etc. Limited replacement buses are expected to take up to 90 minutes EXTRA to complete the journey. Passengers should consider alternative routes.
More information can be found directly on FFS website: http://www.ffs.ch/orario/informazioni-sul-traffico-ferroviario.html
Well that's not good. I've just had a look at the link - thanks - and its not very optomistic. by clicking on "EN" at the top the item can be read in English. 30 days for the SBB to complete work after an outage means a big outage. And in mid summer! I see the advice to route via Spiez. That will be a busy route. Thanks, Andre.
Yikes. I hope no one was hurt. Has it been raining alot in that area?
The route via Spiez is also compromised because there are currently (scheduled) works on the Simplon tunnel until mid-2013. That hasn't affected much timetables, but it means not much (if any) spare capacity for diverted trains. And they need spare capacity for freight as well. ==================== 1 people died in the landslide (worker of a FFS contractor)
