Five major Italian airports scrap 100ml liquid limit for hand baggage

From "The Local" a subscription service so here is the text of the article.

Passengers at five major Italian airports are no longer restricted by the 100ml limit for liquids in hand baggage, following a landmark announcement by Italy’s civil aviation authority.

People travelling from Rome Fiumicino, Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa, Bologna Guglielmo Marconi and Turin Caselle are no longer required to comply with the 100ml limit on liquids in cabin bags, Italy’s civil aviation authority ENAC said in a statement published on Sunday.

These airports have installed high-tech EDSCB (Explosive Detection Systems for Cabin Baggage) scanners that are capable of detecting the presence of explosive particles with a high degree of precision, even through canvas.
The technology allows both liquids and electronic devices such as laptops and phones to remain inside passengers’ luggage during scans.

Hi Laurel,

Thanks for sharing this valuable information!
It will be interesting to see how long before other airports follow suit.

Ha! This just reminded me of the time I was traveling with my elderly mom (years ago) and she had packed full sized lotion and shampoo bottles in her carry-on luggage!
Fortunately I found them while still at home and was able to transfer the liquids to small travel bottles.

Should be helpful, unless you have a connecting flight in UK and have to go through security screening before boarding your next flight.

I've not been to Ireland, but if US bound I know you do immigration and customs there.
Do you go through a security screening between flights?

Depending on where one is going, I foresee some folks may end up having an unwelcome surprise.

Joe32F, that was my thought relating to our trip this fall, coming home MXP-LHR-PDX. But it’s a step!

So I can buy full sized creams/lotions etc. if I'm flying directly back to the US from FCO? This is good news! I wonder if other countries in Europe will do this as well. I'm flying out of Lisbon a few times in the future, but as far as I know they still have a 100ml limit and no plans to change.

Thanks for this information!

I noticed this in Edinburgh as well when I departed 2 weeks ago. There were big signs in the Security area saying you could have containers of up to 2L (multiples, too) and leave them in your bags.

Same issue Joe mentioned though, if you are transiting thru another airport with security you may not meet their guidelines.
