Five hrs. in Dusseldorf Airport: what to do to keep busy?

In May, I have a five hour layover, after flying from Vancouver to Toronto to Dusseldorf; I booked those flights to save quite a bit of money.
I'll be tired when I get to Dusseldorf, and wondered what kind of services are available.
Is it non-smoking yet?; or will it be really stuffy and stale?
Is there a quiet area that anyone knows of that I can park myself to get a couple of hours sleep before my flight to Rome?
I'll be arriving there at 06:00, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a seat, I'm guessing.
Are there seats that are like benches anywhere, or are they all divided to keep you from lying down?
What about food services?
Any info greatly appreciated!!!
Oh, and does anyone know if there are showers available?
The airport website is okay, but it would be nice to have a travelers advice.
Thanks in advance!!

Unfortunately DUS is too close to be a flying destination to me. But I can assure you the airport is smoke free with the exception of a few designated smoking areas. There are two hotels nearby which may also have quite lounges for you to hang around.

We had a connecting flight through Dusseldorf in March. It's a nice airport--it looks like parts of it have been recently renovated. There are pleasant restaurants, gift and duty-free shops and plenty of places to sit--don't know if you'll be able to lie down though. We had a two hour layover and had coffee, read and dozed after arriving from an early morning flight. Once you leave customs there are monitors nearby so that you can locate the gate for your next flight and directional arrows on the floor to point you in the right direction.
