Finnair's reputation

Does anyone have any personal or credible knowledge of Finnair's reputation? Do they lose luggage? Is the flight service at least reasonable compared to Air France? I am researching flights from JFK to Vilnius, Lithuania. Finnair keeps popping up for decent prices & schedules. The 1st leg of the journey ends at Helsinki w/the connecting flight to Vilnius 40 minutes later! Had to make a call to see if I was reading the layover time correctly. They said yes & would be waiting for the late arriving transatlantic flights even from JFK. Are they all-around reliable? Any info would be welcomed.

Finnair is member of the one world alliance just like American Airlines or British Airways. They are one of the very few airlines worldwide with not one signle casualty in the last 30 years nor have they had a total loss of an airplane. They rank as No. 1 of all European airlines as far as safety is concerned. They've got a very good ranking on the punctuality scale and on the "making connections" scale. They score in the OK area on seating which means it might be a bit tight. They score pretty poor on the on board enternainment scale, however, that's because they've got many MD11s in their long haul fleet. Delta, too, has got pretty poor on-board entertainment on that very aircraft type. Their newer planes are A340s which seem to come with an up to date entertainment system. Most people critizise their in flight food and beverage service. Obviously you don't get a lot of choice and on shorter flights you've even got to pay for soft drinks. If you like travelling and arriving on time and at the same airport as your luggage Finnair is for you.

If you want a wide choice of food and the latest Hollywood blockbuster Finnair is not for you.

They are a very profesional, polite, punctual airline, who pay a great deal of attention to the things that really matter and are luke warm about the incidentals.

I've flown Finnair a couple of times, although always within Europe. I've never had a problem. The Helsinki airport is very manageable so I believe that it would not be an issue to have a short connection.

Thank you all for the info. Thank goodness my inflight tolerance threshold is high. Just give me water, sustenance, a blanket, and a pillow & I'll be tickled-pink. But lose my luggage and I'll...... Glad to read Finnair doesn't lose luggage.
