Finnair and Scandinavian Air

I am looking for feedback on trips from the US to Europe on Scandinavian Air and Finnair. Like many others I'm finding that airline prices are getting outrageous, and these two airlines have some of the better prices for my trip. I have never used either one.

I've flown SAS quite a number of times and Finnair a couple of times (although not recently). Both airlines are fine. SAS is part of Star Alliance and Finnair is part of OneWorld if frequent flyer points matter to you. Also, not sure where you are going, but the airports in the Nordic countries are pretty user friendly for connections.

SAS was our airline of choice when they flew from Seattle. They have since abandoned the route. The last time we flew with them (2007) the food had slipped a lot, but everything else was fine.

Note that SAS has cut quite a bit on service. Intra-Europe flights are now "Buy your own food and drinks". On transatlantic flights you pay for alcohol, except that you get one free alcoholic drink during meal service, Other than that, SAS are fine and punctual. Both Copenhagen Airport (SAS) and Helsinki airport (Finnair)are nice for connections.

I flew SAS direct from Dulles to Copenhagen last summer. It was a decent flight. Service was fine. On time departure, arrival a few minutes early. I did notice they forced some people to check their overweight and/or second carry-ons at the gate. Carry-on weight limit is a little under 18 pounds. We carry-on only and took extra pains to ensure we were legal before we left home. The plane I was on had very little leg room (seat pitch) - but that's pretty much the norm nowadays.

Thanks everyone for your help. It doesn't have to be luxury, I just didn't want anything that was scary or unreliable. I'll book with confidence.
