You might want to look at my webpage on getting around Frankfurt airport (FRA). The two train stations are attached to Terminal 1, so the first thing you'll need to do is get to Terminal 1. Look for signs in Terminal 2 directing you to the Skyline, which is a people mover going from the top of Terminal 2 to the top of Terminal 1. There will be a series of escalators to the the top floor. There are also elevators if you can find them. If you have commandeered a luggage cart you can take it all the way to the Skyline, but not on it. However, there will probably be other carts at the Terminal 1 station, left by people going to Terminal 2. Terminal 1 is the next station after you get on at Terminal 2. Go down the series of stairs/escalators into the great hall of Terminal 1. Access to the Fernbahnhof is via a pedestrian bridge from the second floor mezzanine in Terminal 1. There might be a way to get to the mezzanine directly when coming down into Terminal 1, but the only way I know is to come down to the floor of Terminal 1, go over next to the outside wall, and look for escalators to the mezzanine. There will be signs, at the top of the escalators, if I remember, pointing to the Fernbahnhof. You go over the pedestrian bridge and through a hallway in the building across the street and to the Fernbahnhof. You could get standard tickets in advance at the German Rail website. Avoid the temptation to purchase the discounted Savings fare tickets, or to get reservations in advance, 'cause you don't ever know exactly when your plane will arrive.
Make it easy on yourself. Rather than trying to remember a complicated series of instructions, just follow the signs. Going to the Fernbahnhof from one of the terminals (I forget which one) involves ascending and descending a confusing succession of escalators. But the signs point you in the correct direction at every step of the way.
Thank you Lee and Tom for answering my question .. well , the problem is the LUGGAGE ..because it's not easy at all to move around carrying and pulling around 50 kilos of bags !! even with carts ..
I'll try to manage thanks again engie
The carts at Frankfurt airport are very easy to use, I see young children pushing them, loaded with luggage. They are free too. Use the elevators rather than the escalator if you are leery of riding up and down the escalators to the Skytrain and also going to the long distance train station with the cart and luggage.
50 kg of baggage - that's packing light. Light as a fully grown woman - 110 pounds. Glad I'm not paying the excess baggage charge ...
" pulling around 50 kilos of baggage " Are you moving over there? If not, take a peak at Rick's suggestions on packing light.
yes I am moving to Hannover for study purpose well, I did like the ELEVATOR idea .. because I don't like escalators at all !!
I also heard about a company that offers assistance with the luggage at the airport , for a fee , it's a bit expensive , but.. what do you think ? thanks for your responces
Andreas lives in Frankfurt so he should know, but, based on my experience, I would use the Skyline. In 2000, I arrived at T2 and took the shuttle bus from in front to Terminal 1. It's not that quick. The road in front of T1 is one way in the direction of T2, so the bus has to go out and around the Fernbahnhof and come back to T1 from the opposite direction. There were no signs outside of T1 directing you inside to get to the Fernbahnhof, but the building across the road had a big DB sign on the outside so I kept looking for an entrance to it. You have to go into T1 to find the escalator, then go across the pedestrian bridge. It's too bad there is not an entrance to the Fernbahnhof on the back side so the shuttle could let you off there instead of having to take you to T1. Anyway, I came back to FRA the evening before my flight home, and did a "dry run" on the Skyline, decided that was the way to go, and used it the next morning. The Skyline is a little more predictable because it runs constantly, whereas the bus runs every 10 min. If you have that much luggage, you'll need a cart. You can take the cart to, but not on, the Skyline, but there will undoubtedly be carts at the other end left by people going to T2. With the bus you'll have to put your luggage on the bus, then find a cart in front of, or inside, T1.
No, no, no... DON'T take the Skyline train from T2 to T1! That would incur way too much walking once you're in T1. What you do in T2 is: On the floor you arrive (i.e. after baggage reclaim) walk towards the exit, curbside. The moment you leave the building you find a yellow bus clearly marked as a shuttle to T1. Take that bus! When it arrives at T1 there immediately is a long escalator taking you up to the Fernbahnhof. So once you're at the upper end of that escalator all you have to do is turn right, walk maybe 100 yards and you are there!!!
