I will be driving from southern Ireland along the westcoast then over towards Belfast and might want to catch a ferry to Scotland (with my car). Is there a better port and ferry to catch and anyhting unusual I should know?
Rob, Do you own the car? I've been advised it is much smarter if renting a car to book one for Ireland and one for Scotland/England. We took the ferry Belfast to Stranraer. We dropped our car in Belfast, took the speedy ferry (Stena Lines) then a train to Glasgow and picked up the new car there to continue our tour. If you are going to Scotland, this is the best way, but if you aren't planning to spend time there, consider taking a ferry from Dublin to Holyhead (Wales) or Liverpool. Taking your car costs about 3x as much and the laws on rentals are different in England than Ireland
Excellent advice, thank you. Yes, I will be renting. Sounds like leaving the car behind is the right way to go.
