Ferry from Calais to Dover

We will be returning from a cruise in Calais and need to get to Dover. What is the best way to accomplish this? We looked at the ferry but it is 30 pounds for each foot passenger or 25 pounds for a car and 4 people. This doesn't seem to make sense but we looked into renting a car and that was very expensive too

The last time I did the Calais to Dover thing, it was a hovercraft (long time ago). I would just suggest that you don't rent a car in Calais with the intention of dropping it off in England. Since the steering wheel and things are on the opposite side in England, they have no use for any rental car that you are brining in from France. I'm betting that you won't like the drop-off charges.

I learn something every day. I had never heard of a cruise itinerary ending in Calais. Where is that coming from? ... There are two Eurostar trains a day from Calais to London St Pancras International, a morning one at 0934 local arriving 0936 local, and a night one at 2132 arriving 2133. Book early enough and you can get a decent fare.

If you are major Anglophiles like my husband and I are, the ferry is worthwhile because you get to see the white cliffs of Dover. Of course, all bets are off if it is foggy or stormy, but we were lucky. It's an easy train ride from Dover into London, if that is your final destination.
