My husband and I will be arriving in Livorno by cruise ship in April and would like to visit Cinque Terre. What is the best way to get there?
I agree with Tim. No faster way on public transportation than the train. Do you have to return to the ship for departure on the same day? If yes, take careful notes on the train times. There are plenty of trains so that's not a problem.
Take the train. It's about two hours from Livorno to the Cinque Terre. See the timetables at www.trenitalia.com and/or www.bahn.de.
hi! can anyone tell me, if a cruise ship is in livorno for one day, is it better to see florence or cinque terra? i really want to see both but have to pick one. i am leaning towards cinque terre but wonder about the long motor coach ride. any advice is appreciated! thank you!
Hi Edie,
That is a difficult thing to determine, as it will vary based on your personal preference. Florence is a beautiful city with some of the greatest artwork in the world. Compared to that, the Cinque Terre has wonderful views of the ocean and is known for its food; basically it is more based on nature than the city.
So, that will come down to your preference. You mentioned a motor coach ride... is it just a bus to get there/back, or will you have a guided tour? Personally, I think if you are having a tour it would be much more valuable to spend your time in Florence as I would prefer to have the time entirely to myself within the Cinque Terre.
