Ferries to Tangier

We took the Tarifa ferry, it is modern and top notch. The worst part about the crossing is waiting in line for over 30 minutes to have our passports stamped. We parked our car on a sidestreet and there was not a problem with this. Why do you want to drop your car at Hertz? Will you be finished renting a car at this point? The distance to Tanger from Tarifa is closer than from Algeciras. Tarifa is smaller and very easy to get your 'bearings' in. Maybe someone who took the other route can advise you.

Hi Bob, Thank you for the response. I was going to leave our car in the Hertz lot in Algeciras thinking that would be more secure than leaving it in street parking. Tarifa does not appear to have a Hertz location. But we're not turning it in, anyway, just looking for a secure parking location. Aside from the shorter ferry ride, I can't see any other advantages to taking the ferry from Tarifa, especially given its greater cost. The same ferry lines appear to leave from Algeciras, and it seemed like there were more frequent departures.

Bill, Check the port to where your ferry is going in Tangier to see if Algeciras ferry uses a different port than Tarifa ferry. I recall reading somewhere (tripadvisor maybe?) that are now two ports serving Tangiers. One is the old port that is in town and the second is a new port which is quite a distance from Tangiers. Some ferries were travelling to the new port. I don't recall if they were moving all ferries to the new port or if some would continue to the old port.

Thank you, Laura! Great point. I do recall seeing at least one line that went to "Tanger-Med", and I couldn't figure out what that meant.

I was checking the ferry and it seems the ferry to Tangir(Not Tarifa MED whatever that is) is only from Tarifa
