I have heard from a recent travelor to London that a "green" fee between $400-$600 is collected at the major London airports from passengers arriving from US. IS THIS TRUE? My family of four was planning a trip to London in March and this could be a deal breaker for us.
No "green" fee is collected at the airport. Any taxes and fees are included in the total price of your ticket. Look at the price breakdown when you check ticket prices. It is quite likely that the price of your ticket will include $400 worth of taxes and fees.
One more thing ... here is an article about the recently added green tax. http://www.moneywise.co.uk/news/2011-12-22/new-green-tax-will-see-air-fares-rise-2012 This article says it amounts to about 10.50 GBP on flights to U.S. When they say it is expected that the airlines will pass this on to their passengers, it means in your ticket price.
Thank you very much Laura for your feedback! In the past I have been taken by surprise by "fees" at airports ( $130. per person upon arrival in Santiago, Chili 2008) Thanks again.
The entry free to Chile referenced by the last poster is actually the visa fee that is used in reciprocity to the fees Chileans have to fork over to get a US visa. I am sure that this fee has now gone up.
