fastest transportation from Ljubjana to Trieste or Venice

I am trying to find the best and fastest transportation option from Ljubjana or Postonja Slovenia to Trieste or Venice Italy. The trip is planned for the first week of September. My goal is to connect to my reserved TGV rail traveling from Venice to Paris. The problem appears to be the lack of direct bus routes from Slovenia to Trieste or Venice. Or more likely my inability to figure it out! Please offer your suggestions. My concern is missing my train in Venice.

Car is by far the fastest option, 2hrs ish to Trieste, but 1-way drop of fees might be killer. The drive to, and into Venice is a nice, easy, and quick one. - There's some construction on the route now, so add 20% to the drive time to be safe.

The train-bus-train is a pain to Venice, but gets the job done (you hop on a bus briefly in Trieste).

There are buses, just give them a call from the number on the Slovenian bus web site, they speak English well. The bus from Lju to Venice/Trieste was very early morning when I checked on it in May - one per day.

There are some great things to see between Lju and Venice, if you can schedule more time. :)

We just completed a trip to
Slovenia and traveled via rail from Ljubljana to Venice --Train left Lju. in the early AM (7:26) and had to transfer just across the order in Austria at Villach. Arrived at the Venice at 2:20 PM. There is a more direct train --but it leaves Lju at @:30 AM and arrives in Venice at 7:16 AM--Make sure you go to the proper train staion in Venice to make your connection. I assume that would be Venice S. L. Google--- Lju to Venezia by train--- hope this helps

thanks everyone. Very Helpful. The responses pretty much confirm what I was finding--very early train departures and/or limited bus routes. I hadn't considered Deutche Bahn and it looks promising.

Just wanted to add that the bus from Villach to Venice was great! We were super comfortable and there was barely anyone on the bus. Got to see some great countryside along the way as well :)
