Fast trains in France question.

I will be staying in the Montmartre district. Which train station do I use (choose) when going to Beaune. It looks like there are several.

Same question from Beaune to Nice. Looks like there are several in Nice. We are staying on the promenade close to old town side.

Thanks!

If you mean the long distance train from Paris to Beaune, you have no choice. The fast trains leave from Gare de Lyon. There are also slow(er) trains that leave from Gare de Bercy. If you mean the metro to get to Gare de Lyon, we would need more information about where in Montmartre your accommodations are located. In Paris, the long distance trains all leave from certain designated train stations: trains to the Nice, Lyon, Dijon, Beaune, etc. (essentially traveling south) and parts of Switzerland leave from Gare de Lyon. Trains traveling east leave from Gare de l'Est and so on for the six major train stations. Here is a pretty description of what I mean: https://www.parisinsidersguide.com/paris-train-stations.html

For trainsfrom Paris what you can do when you use a train planning/booking site like www.sncf-connect.com is to just enter "Paris" as origin. The system will figure out which Paris Terminal to use automaticaly.

In Nice, the main station for long distance trains is Nice Ville. It is linked by tram to Place Masséna at the edge of the old town, you can also take a taxi or walk ~15-20 minutes.

One of the reasons it’s important to use “Paris” for a departure point is that if there is work on a line, it can change your departure station. We ran into that when booking our tickets from Paris to Bordeaux. Routinely, TGV trains to that region go from Gare Montparnasse, but on our particular date they were departing from Gare Austerlitz. I was panicking when I couldn’t find trains for our dates. Putting in general “Paris” departure gave me the station for that date.
