We are traveling from Zurich to Interlaken on the first day of our trip, and would like to use the "Fast Baggage in Switzerland" pass for our luggage. How can I purchase this since I have already purchased my railpasses?
The Fast Baggage service costs 20 CHF per luggage item. You just pay when you hand over your luggage. But you have to present your bag before 9 am to have it arrive at your destination the same day. You pick it up after 6 pm. Since the trip from Zürich to Interlaken is only about 2 hours with one change, it does not seem to make sense for you to send your baggage separately. Wouldn't you rather have it with you when you check in to your hotel? Or are you taking all day to do some sightseeing on the way?
We will be sightseeing in Zurich when we arrive there in the morning, then leaving for Interlaken later in the day. We are flying from New Orleans, LA, and I was understanding that we could start the Fast Baggage process when we check our luggage in New Orleans. Is this correct?
That service is called Fly Rail Baggage. You can arrange to have your checked luggage transported to Interlaken, but you may not receive it until the next day. The SBB website is not all that clear on how to invoke this. You will have to arrange it through your airline when you check in for your flight.
Thank you, Lola! I will contact our airline to find out more information.
"...You will have to arrange it through your airline when you check in for your flight...." The airlines have no involvement with this service. With Fly Rail Baggage you purchase special baggage tags via a travel agent or Rail Europe (http://tinyurl.com/4yfo7fb). Attach the tags, check-in your bags as normal at your first airport, and when it arrives in Zurich, airport employees intercept the bag, hand it over to Swiss Rail, and they transport it to your final destination. How's that for a run-on sentence:)
Thanks for clarifying, Michael. The SBB website does not explain it all that well. http://www.sbb.ch/en/station-services/services/baggage/fly-rail-baggage.html
Thank you, Michael and Lola!
