We plan on renting a car for 4 days, pickup/drop off in Orvieto. When comparing rates between Auto Europe and Kemwel, Auto Europe is a few dollars cheaper, including insurance with fairly high deductibles (around $1500). An option was available through Auto Europe to purchase zero deductible insurances which would add about $50 to the total. Kemwel's offer was $15 total more but included zero deductible insurances. Any thoughts?
Kemwel is fine as a rental agency, and I've rented from them before. I picked up a Hertz car in Florence last year and made the reservation cheaper thru AutoEurope.com. We dropped it off in Orvieto at the Hertz location across the street from the train station.
I would buy the least expensive insurance package available. CDW is required in Italy, but the rates appear to be government regulated as their CDW rates are much cheaper than in the U.S. My credit card has secondary insurance coverage when the rental is charged through them.
This is very helpful, thanks so much. Now I'm wondering if we should keep the car and drive to Florence instead of taking the train from Orvieto to Florence. How tricky would that be, including dropping the car in the city of Florence?
As Bets said, AutoEurope and Kemwel have the same ownership (I assume it's still the case). However, their rates are different, probably because they use different agencies in many or most places. I've used both over the years, and would recommend either one.
