Evora, Portugal to Seville, Spain

I cannot locate a train that connects easily (as I don't want to backtrack to Madrid) and the only bus web-sites are in Spanish. Should I just rent a car for the day?

Help?
Thanks,
Lane

Yes, rent a car or take the bus. The car may involve a significant one way rental and drop off in Spain, different country, at a price you can afford. That train ride back to Madrid you definitely don't want, 16 to 20 hours back through Madrid. You can drive the 200 miles in 3.5 hrs plus time for stops. But may be a bit tricky to arrange the car rental, I haven't done it from Evora to Seville, but think that if you go to AutoEurope, once they know you're picking up in Evora and dropping off in Spain, they want you to phone rather than doing it the easy way online.

A quick search on the internet shows that if you want to take a bus you will need to go Evora-Faro and then change. Will be longer but you will be able to avoid the rental car drop of charge.

Suggest you do some more research on the internet - try Tripadvisor and lonely planet's Thorntree (this was discussed about a year ago)

Thanks for the replies. Now, debating if I really want to drive in a country where I can't read the signs.

You'll be able to read the signs OK....but, as Kent points out, you'll be whacked with a huge charge to rent a car in one country and drop it off in another. Transportation links between southern Spain and southern Portugal are sparse, but they do exist. Arnold is correct....you will have to go to Faro, then onto Sevilla (Sevilha) by bus. The Portuguese bus line that covers this route can be found here. It is in Portuguese, but easy to follow. This Portugese bus company makes the run from Faro to Sevilla, (in english) as does this Spanish company. On the latter site, choose "Routes and Schedules" to bring up Portugal as a starting point. If the bus schedule from Evora to Faro doesn't suit you, then maybe check the trains. The Portuguese rail company can be accessed here, also available in English. Sounds complicated, but it's not really. And far better than either going the looooong way around, or breaking the bank to drop off a car in Sevilla!
