EuroTrain in summer and reservations

Do I need a reservation if I have a eurotrain pass during the summer. What are the pros and cons of have a reservation? Is it worth it? How far in advance do you need to be at the stations with and without a pass?

Some trains require a seat reservation and there is a fee for the reservation even if you have some type of pass. Generally it is the high speed and long distance trains/
