Eurostar, Paris to London

We are taking the train from Paris to London next week. We will each have one piece of carry on luggage and a personal backpack. I know we have to go through passport control and security so should allow plenty of time before our train departs.

What I am unsure about is liquids. Will we need to separate them out in a quart size bag?

I don't need to do this to fly to Paris since we have TSA pre-check and we always check our luggage when we fly home from LHR due to their painful airport security. So, if it is not an issue for the Eurostar train it would make packing a lot simpler.

You should be given a recommended time to arrive at Gare du Nord with your booking. It doesn’t do any good to get there earlier. Arrive within the timeframe given. You can see generalities here (scroll down):

You may be aware of the above, if so ignore me. Eurostar is not quite than same as airlines with the broad guidelines and large arrival windows that we are used to dealing with.

Re LHR security- several terminals have gone to enhanced scanners so that it is not necessary to remove liquids from carry-ons. LHR Terminal 2 last month was significantly easier and faster for me than ORD’s TSA Pre-Check lane which was packed.

That would be nice. I am a carry on, never check person except for LHR. It would nice to not make this exception.

I took this train in April, the week before Easter, and I found the waiting and screening quite inefficient. Our departure was scheduled for 1 pm and we arrived at 11:30 am to find hundreds of people already lined up. Ticket scanning and screening began about an hour after that, so you stand and wait in pens that reminded me of livestock handling. There was only one entry point with a scanner, but I think that was deliberate so as not to overwhelm the immigration staff. We finally boarded and there was an announcement that the departure would be 20 minutes late due to passengers still boarding. I don't know if this is typical or it was just a busy day, but I felt sorry for anyone with physical limitations who had to stand for so long. There was nowhere to sit while waiting.
