I was wondering about the logistics of spending the day in Brussels while traveling on the Eurostar from Paris to London. our family of four will be traveling with luggage and I did not know if it was possible to check our luggage somewhere in Brussels so we won't be dragging it around. Can we get a ticket that allows us to get off the train for 4-6 hours and then hop back on for the rest of the trip to London?
Eurostar goes to both Paris and Brussels but they are hundreds of miles apart and 2 sides of a triangle. Your tticket is to one or the other. You would need another separate ticket, probably on Thalys, to connect them. Not cheap.
If you book well in advance (up to 90 days allowed) at www.thalys.com, you can get a Smoove fare as low as €25.00 for Paris-Brussels. You can store your luggage at the Bruxelles-Midi/Zuid station. Again if you book well in advance (up to 120 days allowed) at www.eurostar.com, you can get a discount fare for Brussels-London as low as €50.00 (less for children, depending upon their ages).
So Sue,, its two trips no matter how you look at it,, a trip to Brussels, then a trip to Paris. I wouldn't do it, unless you have a very specific reason for visitng Brussels.. its more money and alot of time( all together) Do you really want to visit Brussels,, or did you think it would be an easy thing to do and so just tick off the "see another country " box?
A quick look at a map of Europe might help.
Thanks everyone for your replies, they are very helpful. I guess it is sort of a check the box kind of thing. I have been to Brussels and I want my kids to see it. It is their first trip to Europe and I don't know when we will go back as a family. We will be in London and Paris for one week each. I just thought it might be nice side trip on our way out of Paris. I'll have to give this some more thought and check out the expense, but it does sound like its doable. Thanks again.
Well Sue, its a rather out of the way side trip,, and you would be ripping off a day from Paris,, which in my opinion would be very sad,, some much to see in Paris.
