I read somewhere that Eurostar will soon begin direct service from Amsterdam Schiphol to London.
Could this be accurate?
About the accuracy I cannot say, but it is possible. Right now you just need to make a connection to the Thalys at Brussels Midi. It is a business decision if the traffic is there and they can lease track time.
The direct service won't commence until late 2017. There will only be two trains a day and they will terminate/depart from Centraal station. More details here:
A Eurostar rep who visited us recently said that pricing for the new route is not yet decided. They'll want it to cost more than London-Brussels, but less than the current connection to Amsterdam via Thalys trains, and still to be competitive with the budget airlines that have quite a bit of London-Amsterdam service (www.skyscanner.com). Of course, early booking also improves ticket prices.
To my mind, .Eurostar does compete with budget airlines in that the service is city centre to city centre. That is such a boon.
