Eurostar Canceled My Trip HELP!

After reading about the fire in the chunnel, I decided to check on my booking status for my trip in two weeks to Paris from London. The booking was canceled by Eurostar with no explanation. It's my honeymoon! I've replied via e-mail but they have an automated response that a reply will take a long time. Can anyone please help?

There are other ways to get to Paris including short flights and ferries. I think you should be proactive and start investigating alternative modes of transportation.

Matt that sucks, but don't sit on your hands, you gotta be quick and see if there are any low cost flights left( bet they are busy now)

Check all low cost airlines. Easyjet, Ryanair, and there must be 1/2 dozen other ones. Sit in front of computer coffee in one hand, and a pen and paper in the other,, and save that honeymoon!!!

Hey,, give us your dates and maybe some of us will play "hunt the fare and flight " down for you!! Best wishes.

Matt, how did you find out your booking was canceled? I think you would have received an email from them. I also tried to login on the site to check my booking, and they said I have no previous booking. I would suggest calling them to confirm. I have emailed them and if they don't reply by Thursday I'm calling them up to confirm.

Here is the email reply I got from them yesterday:

Thank you for contacting Eurostar. Due to the high volume of e-mails received following the recent fire in the channel tunnel, our normal response time has been affected. We will endeavour to respond to all e-mails as soon as possible. If your e-mail is concerning a Eurostar journey that you were unable to make due to the fire, we will process any refund due and confirm by return e-mail. All travellers with non-essential journeys up to Sunday 21 September can get a refund or exchange their tickets for travel at a later date. We would ask you not to contact us via telephone unless absolutely necessary during this period. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this busy time, please allow 14 days for all transactions

Matt, I wouldn't trust the websites. Get on the phone.

I don't know if you've seen this, but here are some Q & A about Eurostar service through the end of the month:

I found out my booking was canceled when I signed in to the Eurostar site and typed in my booking reference code. The site displayed that my booking was canceled offline. Whatever that means. I've e-mailed them and am going to call tomorrow morning.

I too now see that our train is no longer running. I've emailed Eurostar and requested a full refund. At least we have this much notice. But it is horrible to know my wife and I will not see Paris this year. Just awful!

But they go on to say that they will get you on the next available train.

Frank, you were right on! I just got off the phone with Eurostar and nothing has been canceled. The system wiped everything because the booking was so old (over two months). The operator confirmed everything was still in the system and and e-mail reconfirmation would be sent to me shortly.

Thanks everybody! I'll try to file a report on here when we attempt to travel updating people on Eurostar in general.

I'm glad it worked out for you Matt.

Another tip is to print out all confirmations, emails, etc for every aspect of your trip. This way, if disagreement ensues, you have it in writing.

BTW, congratulations.

Hi Matt,
If you decide to fly to Paris, it might be worth checking some of the regional airports around the UK for cheaper flights. I'm thinking specifically of Southampton airport or Bristol. Southampton is not that far from London.
Another idea is maybe catch a ferry over to France and then a train? Portsmouth and Poole (both not too far from London) are terminals for ferry travel. Could be quite romantic! Best wishes whatever you do, and congratulations on your forthcoming marriage.

That's the real question ? Is everything ok ?? My point being. What is really happening ? Are they using just one tunnel ? How long does it take to pass through now ? Are there long waits ? I have my tickets here at the house. They are for the October 17th. It is just a one day trip to London, to do a couple of things. And back to Paris on the 18th. They are fun things not business. We thought the train ride at that speed would be fun. Doesn't sound like it now. I think I will go for a refund.

Trains are being canceled and delayed. Read the updates on www.eurostar.com. Eurostar has been very good at updating their website. However, they don't have any information about trains in mid-October. I believe they are only giving refunds for travel through 30 September.

Yes, you can still show up and wait hours to get on a train. My wife and I wanted to maximize our time in Paris, which is just one night, by taking Eurostar in the first place, just under 2.5 hours each way. If it takes 5 hours or more each way, which it could as both our trains are cancelled, we decided it wouldn't be worth it so we cancelled and asked for a full refund. It sucks! I looked into a ferry to France, but that too would take 6 hours or so total time from London to Paris. And flights are too expensive at this short notice.

Just another note regarding Eurostar there was a major fire that occurred in one of two tunnels under the English Channel that Eurostar uses. The number of trains has been drastically reduced at this time through the 30 September, thus the reasons for changes. Fire was last Thursday on a freight train (not Eurostar).

They are in fact reimbursing as well as rescheduling. Take the time to call if you can.

Note - my trip for this past Sunday was canceled and I had to wait for the first available seat. My original ticket was for 14h13 and departed at 14h43 - travel time is also extended by about 30 minutes.
