Eurostar advising passengers not to travel today

Eurostar is advising passengers scheduled to travel today to change to another date due to power issues in the Channel Tunnel.

They suggest travelers not go to the stations as well.

Update 3:25 CET: Trains have partially begun to run again but Eurostar still advises passengers to postpone travel. Those who do travel today can expect "Severe delays and possible last minute cancellations."

Happy New Year.

LNER are giving free travel home on the next available service for anyone who abandons their journey to the continent. If they have not yet started to travel, and travel on a subsequent day (when Eurostar re-opens) the existing ticket will be valid- whatever it's type (even an Advance ticket).
EDITED- Southeastern Railway, East Midlands Trains and GWR are also now doing the same thing.

It looks as if this easement will also apply for anyone from the continent who has to return on a later day (or a later time today if the issue is fixed).

There is NO Eurostar capacity tomorrow, 31 December.

Also all ferry operators are opening up foot passenger capacity on sailings to and from Dover. HS1 and the classic train routes are running to Dover, and there are French domestic trains between Calais Ville and Paris Nord.

And they finally stopped all trains.

They now say they will be progressively resuming service as of 3 pm European time.

The first passenger train, the 1504 to Amsterdam left St Pancras at 1559.

Four trains- the 0701 to Paris, 0704 to Brussels, the 0801 to Paris and the 0816 to Amsterdam were all held in the Ashford area before returning to St Pancras between 250 and 300 or more minutes after their initial departure

There are ongoing delays today (31 December) to both Eurostar and Eurotunnel.

The situation of only one track being open remains in force (the damage still has to be repaired), and the incident occurred at a crossover meaning that built in flexibility is not available.

At some stage the tunnel will probably have to be closed entirely, again, to effect the repairs, due to the location.

So passenger and car services are being flighted through- that is as many services as possible for half an hour in one direction, then the same in the opposite direction.

Last night some passengers were stranded overnight on trains unable to go anywhere.
