Eurorail Global Pass Seat Reservations

I am going to Europe from May 1 to June 7. I have purchased a Eurorail Global Pass. In the time table book I received with my pass it says that most of the trains we are taking need reservations. Are reservations manditory? Can I make a reservation when I get to the train station the day I am going to leave? How far in advance do I need to make a reservation? Can I make reservations on-line? If I can make reservations on-line, can someone please send me a link of a web site where I can do this? It seems the only web sites I can find want me to pay for a ticket and a reservation. Thanks!!!

We are going to Germany, Netherlands, France, Italy and Spain. I found that the German trains don't need a reservation, same with the netherlands. I found the website for the Italian trains, but it can't seem to function very well so I was hoping for a better solution. I have checked the Rail Europe site and really don't want to pay the same price I paid for my passes just to get a reservation. They are outrageous prices!

Most reservation can be purchase from RailEurope for an inflated price. Where are you going? You can get reservations for trains in Germany from the German Rail (Bahn) website. However, except for night trains, very few trains in Germany require reservations. You can get reservations for Austrian trains on their website, www.oebb.at. For the most part, again except for night trains, which sell out well in advance, I would say to wait until you are in Europe to get reservations. There are some exceptions. Thalys and French Rail are known for limiting passholder reservations, so you might not be able to get on a train you want.

For Italy you can go to the trenitalia site--pick your train--go to book a ticket--select other ticket options box--then select
"global pass" and it will let you book a seat resservation on line hope this helps Paul
