This company is recommended by RS. However, there are virtually no reviews of this company boasting a 64-year history. Has anyone used them? We are planning on renting/leasing a car for four months in the UK. If legit, do you recommend?
Thank you!

I strongly recommend using Auto Europe instead. www.autoeurope.com Auto Europe is highly rated, has a huge range of options for vehicles, offers 24/7 support, and offer excellent prices. We've used Auto Europe many times. They also provide extras for free like learning the rules of the road of the country you will be driving in and if they don't have your car ready for pickup when promised, the rental is on them. Have you read the goofy childish stuff Europe by Car has on its site about International Driving permits and how the UN doesn't offer driver's tests and how bad the traffic is in New York? It's like some kid wrote it. Then read the professionally written info on International Driving permits on Auto Europe's site and see which strikes you as a company you would trust more.
Another thing to consider is to leasing vs. renting. Autoeurope offers leases that are substantially less expensive that renting for three weeks or more and include total insurance coverage. I don't know if the car can be picked up in the UK, but even picking it up in France may save a lot of money. Something you might want to research. I'd call and speak to one of their customer service reps to find out.
EDIT: Peugeot has a leasing office at Heathrow. You might want to check out the AutoEurope page.
Yes, it's legit. I've known several people who have used Europe-by-Car over the years. They were pleased.
I've always used Autoeurope simply because I like seeing the price on line and not having to wait for a price. But before the internet age, these two were equally known and used.

Yes, before the Internet, maybe 25-30 years ago, I used Europe by Car, and they were perfectly fine. Every once in awhile I'll check their web site (I still have it Bookmarked), and I'm always surprised that they're still around, since one usually only hears about Auto Europe/Kemwel and sometimes Gemut.
Europe by Car handles leases of Citroen cars under the French program, Auto Europe leases Peugeot cars, and Renault Eurodrive is the third option.
I have used Gemut.com. It is a US based company that seems to get the same price and you deal with a local company.
Thank you Laura. I always wondered who handled Citroen, so now I'll check Europe-by-Car for leases as well.
Last fall we leased a Renault Megaine auto diesel with gps from Europe by Car.....pickup and return was in Paris in the 16th. The lease was for 41 days and we could not have been more pleased. We put over 7000 kilometers (started out with 3) on the car, never had any problem getting diesel and averaged (I am an old accountant so I track these things) slightly over an equivalent of 47 mpg. The process of paperwork took less than ten minutes on pickup and even less on return. Everything worked flawlessly. And we drove into and through France, Italy, Switzerland without any problems. Diesel fuel is cheaper than gas in Europe (I have my own opinions on why that is compared to the US where the reverse is true) which means that when combined with the extra "milage" from a diesel engine, it was actually cheaper overall to lease the diesel
We are returning to France for six weeks again this fall and have already reserved a new Citreon (sp?) C4, diesel auto with GPS from Europe by Car....hope the experience is as good as last year....will update when we return in November....stay tuned.
