Has anyone ever bought a car and taken delivery in Europe? I am thinking of buying a Volvo and picking it up in Sweden (even though the C30 is built in Belgium), How was the experience for you? Has Volkswagen ever had this available?
Hi Dan, I think VW did it years ago for some specific models. BMW, Audi and Mercedes have all offered European delivery for years. It is my dream to do that one day.
They take care of the insurance, plates and shipping it back home. Such a deal!
Good luck
Yup, Volkswagen even built a car theme park around their Wolfsburg (near Hannover) headquarters. Picking up there is big time fun. www.autostadt.de. Mercedes, Audi, Porsche and BMW also let you pick up right from the plant.
My neighbors did this with a Mercedes this past summer. They showed us pictures of their travels throughout Germany. They didn't mention any issues.
Thanks, everyone. It seems as though VW is not doing this, but I can pick my Volvo up in Sweden, and drop it off in Bremerhaven (10 minutes from my Grandfathers house) with little or no dropoff charge. Now just to find the time!
Um, again: I did pick up my VW right at the plant in Wolfsburg in 2004.
Sorry, Andreas. I was just curious if VW has European delivery for American purchasers. (US smog, safety, etc). I haven't found anything showing this yet, but I hope you are right. In any event, the trip to Wolfsburg looks like fun!
My parents have done this with Volvo in Sweden...about 2 years ago and had no issues.
VW doesn't do it these days. For a list that do, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_delivery
