European airport experiences

Has anyone recently experienced being told that there are no electronics (except phones) allowed on board a plane to and from Europe?

There has been talk about this being implemented but for the moment, US and European authorities have decided against it. You can take your electronics as normal.

This is under discussion but has not been implemented. It would be a US Government rule - no airline is going to do it unless it is required by law. Thus you would hear about the law from the news first - it's either going to be a law on all flights from Europe or it won't happen at all.

Just cranked back and forth from JFK to Milan on Emirates with phone, iPad, and laptop in carry on with no issues.

The OP is referring to the electronics ban implemented by the US for certain Middle Eastern and North African nations to the US. There had been talk of the ban being expanded for all European flights to the US. But an agreement was reached between US and EU authorities that this would not be implemented. Unless something significant happens or new developments emerge, there is no reason to think the electronics ban from Europe will ever be implemented.

As Douglas stated, this ban has been implemented for certain airports; here's the list of those ten airports.

IMO, it would take a crystal ball to know if and when they are going to expand the ban. The news on this is very contradictory, and I don't think anyone really knows anything for sure. So we can all reassure each other here that it's not going to come, but fact is, nobody knows.

Personally, I'm not sure I would prefer traveling on a plane that has a ton of lithium batteries ready to catch fire somewhere deep down in the cargo area.

Last time I looked on the map, Amsterdam wasn't anywhere near Africa or the Middle East. ;-)

Yes. And the answer was as given above. Ten airports, all in the Middle East or Northern Africa.

None in Europe so far (not counting Istanbul). So why Amsterdam?

So why Amsterdam?

Because that was the original question.
