My family will be leaving next week for 20 days in Europe. I need advice on traveling on the train. We fly into Brussels and will spend a few days seeing the sights of Belgium, then off to Paris for 4 days, on to Metz to visit family, then will work our way through Germany (would love suggestions on where to stop) as we make our way to Randers Denmark to visit friends, then finally back to Amsterdam for the last few days to fly back home. Whew-- I know it is a lot. We are traveling with 2 kids ages 9 and 14. Our travel agent booked us a Erail Select Pass with 4 countries- Benelux,Denmark,France, Germany- it is a 5 day within 2 month pass. What I need to know is how the pass works- I keep reading that we need to make reservations and pay extra on some trains. We will use the pass only to get from main points Brussels to Paris, Paris to Metz, Metz to ? (Germany), then to Randers, and Randers to Amsterdam. Other times we will buy point to point tickets-- Help I am so confused. Also any suggestions on Germany would be great-- Thanks in advance -Julie
I can give you a suggestion for traveling within Belgium. For about 70 euros, Belgian rail (NMBS) sells a pass good for 10 one way trips anywhere within the country. The biggest advantage is that more than one person can use the pass at the same time. So, 4 people taking a round trip between Brussels and Brugge would count as 8 trips against the 10. You can buy it at any rail station in Belgium.
Thank you for the tips on Brussels. We are going to do that. We want to see Waterloo and a few other things while in Belgium. Julie
