Has anyone heard anything about Europe by Car? I've rented from them very year for the last decade & found them to be excellent, but I just checked their web page & got a message that they have "Temporarily ceased operations". I f this should indeed be the finish of this fine outfit, anyone have any other good, inexpensive sources for small cars in Europe?

The most frequent advice I've seen is to check out three consolidators: AutoEurope, Kemwel, and Gemut. They all work with a bunch of suppliers (including Europe by Car in the past, in at least some cases).

If it fits your time and itinerary, look at a lease program. The cost is low and the price includes additional drivers and the cars are insured to the hilt. Auto France and Renault USA have worked well for me.

I used Europe by Car once or twice 25 or so years ago, and they were perfectly fine. But since then I've generally used AutoEurope and Kemwel (under same ownership) or rented directly from the rental company. I'd suggest one of those 2, or Gemut.
