Eurail passes, why can't you buy them in Europe?

I have two questions about passes hopefully somebody can answer for me.

1- From what I've read, Eurail passes can only be purchased outside of Europe for travel by non-europeans. But why can't you buy them in Europe? Wouldn't showing your passport be proof that you are not from Europe?

2- Hypothetical question, I purchase a 5- day select pass for use before leaving for Europe. It's good for 5 non-consecutive travel days. Ok, what happens if I wind up using up all 5 days but I still want to travel more? Am I stuck with having to purchase point to point tickets?

Steve -- 1. It is fairly simple. That is the rules that they adopted for the tickets. For the same reason that airlines give discounts for advance purchases.

  1. Of course, five days is five days.

Actually it is possible to buy Eurail passes in a limited number of major cities in Europe (Munich for one), but the prices are substantially higher. For more information, call EurAide, 941 480-1555.
