Eurail Pass Clarification

We want to travel through several connecting European countries (5) BUT with a stop for a few days at 2 different cities within the same country. I assume a Eurail Global Pass is the better choice over the Select Pass. Is this a correct assumption on my part? An feedback with an explanation would be appreciated.

Start with the basics. How long is your trip and what can you trim the consecutive days down to? For example, if you are traveling for three weeks, it might seem logical to get a 21 day consecutive(Global) pass. But you will be spending time in your starting and ending cities, meaning you might be able to trim that to a 15 day pass, or could buy a short point to point ticket at the beginning or end to bridge the days needed. This will tell you what the ideal global pass will be. From there, figure out your actual days and route of travel. That will tell you the number of countries and days you would need on a select pass. You may also plan on more point to point tickets with a select pass, using the pass for long (expensive) trips to stretch your pass. That should allow you to compare directly the cost. Reservation and upgrade fees should be the same for both passes. One factor is that the consecutive pass allows more flexibility, but that is dependent on your style.
