Eurail mess

Well unknown to us, Eurail’s app is having major technical issues right now. We have been unable to add a journey to our flex pass. We even went to the Zurich train station last night and had a young tech agent at the info help desk try to assist and he couldn’t figure it out. So would’ve been a complete and utter waste. However after another hour we found a Eurail community forum with a odd but useable workaround, for now. Let’s hope that continues to work. Unfortunately there is ZERO real time help from Eurail, no phone number and now when you email the auto message says they’re so backed up it will take a week to get an answer.

Amazing that Eurail is aware of this, that other users are also having problems with the app but they offer ZERO real time help. Honestly don’t know what we would’ve done without this guy’s post. Next time will buy another pass while here or go completely back to paper. What a joke this app is. They have a note now on their website saying “sorry we know some of you are having technical issues” but zip solution.

Sorry you are having problems. Next time just buy your tickets from the companies that actually run the trains. It’s cheaper and you won’t need to deal with a third party.

you're not going to have learned about this workaround and keep it to yourself are you? Bet there are others here with the same problem.... will you share?

So the workaround was rather than trying to add a trip and then have it give you a ticket like it is supposed to, which the app is NOT doing, to do a train by train trip. For example today we went from Zurich to Bern. We went to “stations” on the app, found a specific train, added THAT to the trip and THEN it gave us the “add ticket” option and that worked. Honestly we would never have used Eurail again but in January my hubs got a 50% off deal from them. Moral right now: pick the PAPER option, do NOT use the app mobile option!

My constant companion when booking train tickets is www.seat61.com
This blog-turned-rail-encyclopedia not only knows the schedules but can often suggest purchasing strategies. I'd certainly take his advice before Eurail -- he might even recommend that operation. Not often, I'll bet.

Thanks, cchapin100! Trying to see if this work-around works for us.

We have booked 3 of the 4 routes with the 4-day Global Mobile Pass with no problem. For the 4th route, Paris to Barcelona, it is saying it wants to mail us a paper ticket yet there is no time to mail us a paper ticket.

AHHH!

The other workaround we used, also from another poster who was having trouble, is to book everything under one “trip”. So do your first trip, then just add all your other trips to this one.

We used Eurail for probably 10 trips before this and never once had an issue when we had paper tickets but their app is utter crap and their customer service even worse since they have zero real time help. Will never ever buy from them again.

But you did say it saved your daughter a ton of money on her vacation.

Thanks! Will try that.

Sam, it saved only if we can get this last route booked. I’m sure we’ll figure it.
