Eurail Global Pass with Kids

Hello,

Traveling with family, (2 adults, 1 kids 6yr old, 2 kids under 4yr)

On the Eurail website, it says free kids may not get the seat, so I am confused and don't know how busy the trains typically are. we looking to get at least 4 seat in long trains like Paris to Zurich, or Milan to Rome..

Do we should buy child pass or we should be okay with 2 adults and 1 child pass and get the reason for two little one ??

Paris to Zurich and Milan to Rome trains require seat reservations, so even if the kids are free for transportation, you will have to buy seat reservations for them.

so, kids under 4 years old require seat reservations in any case ? if they have pass or not ?

I thought it says for under 4, you don't need a pass, and they travel free... but they may not get the seats if the train is busy, so my question is, how often kids need to sit on a laps, or typically, trains full?

Paris to Zurich is the TGV Lyria train that requires seat reservations for everyone. People who buy tickets get seat reservations automatically with their tickets, but rail pass travelers must purchase separate seat reservations. So if you do not buy seat reservations for your kids, it is assumed that they will be riding in your lap, as all other seats will be taken. If there are free seats available, they are likely to be remote from your seat, maybe in another carriage. So be safe and buy seat reservations for them and relax.

Milan to Rome is a Frecciarosso train and also requires seat reservations, and the same caveats apply.

For both those trains you are probably better off not using a pass, and just buying tickets. Especially Trenitalia has very good family rates. And buy the tickets directly from the railway.
