we are planning a five country trip, two weeks,in march: switzerland austria, slovenia, slovakia and hungary. Is there a eurail pass that would cover this? The end of our trip will include a train trip from vienna to bratislava, then bratislava to budepest. thanks for you help!
There is no pat answer to your question. At one time a rail pass was a no brainer. Three or four trips and you were covered. Now passes are more complicated with restrictions and extra fees. And many times are not a good deal. First, you need to work out your exact route and schedule. Use bahn.de or other rail sites and price your tickets point to point. Avoid using RailEurope as their prices include markups and a limited number of trains. Once you know you total PtoP price then look at the pass either on the Steves' site or RailEurope.
According to www.eurail.com, Slovakia is not included in Eurail passes. You could get a four country select pass for the other four and buy P to P tickets for Slovakia. However, as Frank pointed out, rail passes often are not a value. You need to figure it for your own itinerary.
