Euraide and Train Reservation

Hi everyone! My husband and I are traveling on our 4th trip to Europe for 3+ weeks in June. In previous times, we've made our rail reservations using RailEurope or done point to point tickets. However, this time we calculated that a Eurail Flexipass was our best bet.

I have read about Euraide and decided that their one $50 fee makes the most sense for our needs this trip. We have our rail pass and just need to make some reservations for some night trains and longer haul trips. However, I called yesterday and only got an answering machine encouraging me to leave a message and it would be returned on an evening/weekend. I left that message yesterday and haven't heard back yet.

Has anyone reserved with Euraide lately? Did you do this sketchy/odd leave a message deal? Did someone get back to you soon, how long did they take?

We need a couple of night trains that just became available and they are necessary for our itinerary to work. I don't want to miss out while waiting to hear from Euraide. (The good news is that they just became available.)

Euraide has received high marks on this board for cheaper reservations...it becomes economically viable when you have several, to cope with the $50 fee (use the search box at the top right to see what other posts there have been.) However, it's a mistake to use the RailEurope site to see if a railpass is cheaper than P2P, since RailEurope's P2P tickets are overpriced, and they don't show many of the trains available on most routes.

Thanks, Norm. I had already done as you suggested, searching the site, investigating point to point with Deutsche Bahn and using RS's helpful planning tools. This is our 4th considerable multiweek rail trip, so we're pretty accustomed to navigating the system to get the best deals. The RS sale on rail passes in March was very helpful. (We're doing some flying, as well...yay, EasyJet).

Just wondering how long it typically takes Euraide to get back to people, so I can decide how long to wait before I contact them again or cry uncle and pay more to use a service like RailEurope or some other options that I might have.

I used them once years ago and was happy with their services, but since the advent of on-line purchasing of P2P tickets, I've always found them cheaper for my needs, so I haven't been back. I haven't seen a negative comment about Euraide yet on the board. But it's not a huge operation, so they're probably swamped with summertime requests. I'd give them until tomorrow, then call them again.

I am doing a similar thing as you and just recently emailed Euraide. They took about 2 days to respond. Their website says they return calls on nights and weekends. I get the feeling there aren't that many people handling requests. However, I did hear back and the response was very helpful. I think you should just allow a little extra time.

Norm and Kristy...

Thanks so much! I hope I hear from them soon, if not I'll send an email of our itinerary. :)

Nicole, We used Euraide 2 years ago and used them to make reservations for our upcoming trip next month. Herman helped us out 2 years ago, and I think he is still working for the company - his brother is the main guy on the Munich end. This year Karen helped us out. I believe she's on the east coast and has a different day job which is why she gets back to people in evenings and on weekends. They did a great job of getting reservations and a few tickets for us. I would go ahead and send a detailed itinerary with the trains you want reservations for along with dates and times.

I just received (via FedEx) all my reservations from Euraide. Yes, Karen is in Florida and has another 'day job', so she can only get back to you on the weekends. She is extremely helpful, even calling in person to discuss options. We are four people traveling with eurail passes and have several unusual situations. It was simple and worth the $50. (They also sell the eurail passes) Just know your train schedule, because you will be emailing it to them.
