Enough time in-between trains?

I am taking a train from Amsterdam to Bruges. It stops in Brussels where I will have 22 minutes to catch the connecting train to Bruges. Is that enough time??

You have enough time. But it's usually a quicker journey if you change trains in Antwerp instead of Brussels.

More than enough time. 5 minutes is usually enough time to exchange trains.

Michael is correct. Had not thought about that. We made that run last September and had the same schedule. On the train the ticket conductor suggested we change at Antwerp. And then suggested that we take an extra hour to look around, enjoy coffee, etc. He had a hand held device that printed out a new schedule for us with a 45 min stop over. It was a great suggestion. The train station is beautiful - actually three levels - faces a plaza where we bought ice cream and choc for our afternoon snack. Appreciated his suggestion.

I haven't been in the station in Brussels. Big stations might take a little longer. In small stations five minutes is plenty. It helps if you know ahead of time which platform you need to get to - but 22 minutes is enough to figure that out once you arrive.

The station in Antwerp might require a little bit of extra time depending on the connection, because their are two levels of tracks. But even here, 10 minutes should be more than adequate. All three Brussels train stations shouldn't take more than a few minutes to change.

We got completely lost one time at the Brussels train station.... The track where our train from Germany came into, was quite far away from our connecting train in a whole other section of the train station. If we would have only had 5 minutes between trains, we would have never made it....It is good to look at diagrams of the stations so that you have a good idea of which track your are arriving on and where the departing train will be.

http://www.b-rail.be/nat/E/assets/downloads/plan_b_midi_angl_2008.pdf........................Kate, that's a diagram of the Brussels Midi/Zuid/South station - the one in Brussels used by Thalys. (I figured out you'll be on Thalys) Be sure to use the 'zoom' button at the top of the screen! Print this off, too, if you want. Thalys will use tracks 3,4,5,&6; they're at the bottom of the diagram. It's a simple station - the tracks are 1-22 and are in a nice, neat row. So, you now know you should arrive at Track 3-6; once there, you can find out which track your Bruges train is on. 22 minutes should be PLENTY of time - no worries. Have Fun !!!

Hi, How do I find diagram of layout of European train station? I need to go Geneva to Munich and best connection seems to be thru Zurich, but it has only 38 minutes to transfer. This is a huge train station and trains are on multiple levels depending on arrivial, destination and whether they are local, regional or international. In a new place, I am worried we can't make it! We will have reserved tickets, and only a 1 roller bag each, but still it seems chancy. What happens if you miss a train? Can you take the next one without penalty? Thanks Jim

http://tinyurl.com/2f36vba You have plenty of time to catch your connecting train, even with 5 minutes between trains. Most all the tracks are on the same level, it's the various shops, and railway offices/services that are on different floors. If you check your train out on rail.ch it will tell you the exact platforms you will be arriving and departing from
