We leave JFK at 9:50pm and arrive in CDG at 11:15am. We stay in the same terminal (2E) and depart at 12:35pm for DUB. Flight carrier is Air France. Is this enough time (1hr 20 mins) given we have a 3 year old and a 6 six year old with us?
It can be if you are flying with the same airline, your flight arrives on time and the lines are short, but that is a variable. If you are flying on the same booking and your flight is delayed, the airline should book you on the next available flight. If you are flying on a different airline and have made separate bookings, I would allow more time.
Not long ago, I flew from JFK to CDG to Swiss on Air France. The flight was delayed from JFK and I arrived past the scheduled departure time for my connecting flight. Fortunately, the connecting flight was delayed as well, but the terminal was incredibly full and there was not a seat to be found. I spent most of my time in long lines, which would have been much more challenging with a 3 and 6 year old.
This does not seem like enough time to me, especially with two young children and all the baggage that may entail. The last time I landed at CDG, we landed on a runway far from the gate, and taxied for about half an hour. And if the flight had been even a bit delayed, I would have been in trouble. Also it can take a LONG time for passengers to get off a large plane. Are you seated near the front? Finally, there is no guarantee that both planes will actually be in the same terminal - gates change. Sure, Air France would be responsible for getting you on another flight if the connection doesn't work, but really? Would you want to deal with this while traveling with two children who, most likely will be tired and cranky?
I would never schedule less than a two hour layover at CDG. Can you change this?
Minimum transfer time recommended by ″easyCDG″ :
• 60 minutes intra terminal 1/2/3
• 75 minutes between terminals 1 and 2
• 90 minutes between terminals 1/2 and terminal
ENTERING THE SCHENGEN AREA
You must pass through passport control and security screening at
Paris-CDG.
The test will be your JFK to CDG flight arriving substantially on time. As noted above you will need to go through passport control on entering the Schengen zone followed by a security screening of your bodies and carry-on baggage.
Does Air France have a later flight to Dublin that they could rebook you should the best laid plans go astray?
"As noted above you will need to go through passport control on entering the Schengen zone"
A JFK-CDG-DUB itinerary booked on one ticket does not require the passenger to enter the Schengen zone, as (1) Ireland is not in the Schengen zone and (2) CDG permits airside non-Schengen transit (functionally airside "international" transit if you consider Schengen as a "domestic" zone for flight purposes). As both JFK and DUB are non-Schengen airports, this applies.
That said, I do think this is a bit tight but the OP does not need to go through passport control at CDG.
