Any suggestions for sources of information for getting to small/remote places in Tuscany? Need to reserve lodging, but first need to work out how long it's going to take to get between towns. Distances are short but places are remote.

Sherry. There are different bus companies for different areas of tuscany. You will have to tell where you plan to go. Around Siena use http://www.trainspa.it/train04/extraurbano.pdf here is the legend

I'm specifically interested in bus travel from Florence (or maybe Ravenna) to small, remote sites 30-40 miles east of Florence: the sanctuary of La Verna and the monastery of Camaldoli. La Verna and Camaldoli are in the mountains east of Florence, only a few miles from each other, on opposite sides of the same valley. (The nearest cities are Arezzo and Bibianna, but I can get to them; the challenge is getting from those small towns to the sites.)
