A same day return (roundtrip) ticket on National Express coaches for London-Bath Spa is around £22. You can get fun fares as low as £5 each way if you book far enough in advance. However, it's a slow ride so you'll have a lot less time in Bath than you would if you take the train.

The train is the only feasible way to do a day trip from London to York. Walk up fares for London-Bath Spa and London-York are quite high. However, if you can commit NOW to departure dates and times, you may still be able to get discount fares. Book at www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com.

We found that for a day the best bang for a buck was to take a bus tour to Bath from London. It included Windsor Castle and Stonehenge. A bit pricey but well worth it, included were entrance fee's. We did not have to worry about finding how to get to all the good stuff and sometimes bus stops are a long ways away. Our tour guide was a hoot, with a bit of comedy mixed in with his history, and we could do our own thing for alot of the time.
