Emirates Airlines: May men wear shorts aboard the flight and in the Dubai airport?

Silly Americans in their shorts while on holiday. As I looked at flights from the US to Italy aboard Emirates airline, I wondered if I would be permitted and/or scoffed by all those around me if I wore shorts aboard the flight. I looked into a trip to Bankok ($800 round trip!) and they land in Dubai. And I thought again, would I be permitted to be in shorts there in their airport hub? I'm almost answering my own question.... what is your experience? Thanks

I have never, ever, seen a passenger, an adult one, that is, on an overseas flight wearing shorts. Why would you even want to, especially on a flight that connects at an airport in a Muslim country? Geez, in Iran men can't even wear short sleeved shirts.

Aircraft cruising at 39,000 feet tend to get a bit chilly. It's rare to see anyone wearing shorts on Emirates or any other airline going to any destination. In Dubai shorts are usually kosher if they go down to the knees (both men and women).

Agreed. I wear nothing but shorts by mid-Spring. But when flying I wear my jeans, not just for the chill, but because my shorts take up substantially less room in my carry-on.

You will have no problems wearing shorts in the airport in Dubai. Dubai is is very tolerant, there are numerous bars in the airport and you will see large numbers of Europeans in shorts, short skirts, etc.
