My husband and I plan to travel from Berlin to Basel using the night train. He uses a device for sleep apnea which needs an outlet in the compartment. Would this be a problem?
The only City Nightline route I've taken is between Basel and Amsterdam. I stayed in the deluxe sleeper (on a doubledecker rail car)and there was only one outlet in the bathroom. CNL uses different types of rail cars on each route so it's possible there might be a different setup on your train?
Same here, I have only been on a night train from Amsterdam to Basel. The sleeper cabin was for only 2 persons and it had an outlet. However, depending on the kind of sleeper car and how many are on the train, determines sometimes the kind of sleeper that is used. One time, it was German, one time Swiss and one time Italian when going on to Italy.
I just checked the "bible" of European rail travel: Man in Seat 61, and he claims both standard and deluxe sleepers "have 220V power sockets for laptop computers & mobiles (look below the bed near the door)". So it's possible I may have missed the outlet outside the bathroom. http://www.seat61.com/citynightline.htm#Sleepers
My wife has a CPAP unit which is rechargeable battery operated with enough stamina to last several nights without recharging. Just another option. Good idea for home use as well in case of a power outage. Her unit will switch to battery if AC is interrupted.
