We are planning to spend part of a day in Eisenach. We plan to see Bach's birthplace (museum now), Luther related monuments, etc. I understand June 2 in Germany is a holiday and will look like a Sunday. Does anyone know if it would be wasteful to stop at Eisenach on June 2 ?

Yes, the town will look a lot like a Sunday. That means mainly that shops are closed. Restaurants and hotels are open as are most museums. For a lot of German families this would be the kind of day to do exactly what you're planning to do. The Bachhaus is open daily but you can contact them to double check on their specific schedule for the day www.english.bachhaus.de The Wartburg (Luther) is open daily as well, again to double check for change of times of their English tour contact them:

Terrific, thanks a lot Beatrix - I am happy to learn from you that we can indeed see what we want to see in Eisenach ! By the way, we had visited Calgary many years ago - wonderfully beautiful place !
