Edinburgh to London via rail

We are arriving at Kings Cross at 1800. I am unfamilar with London transportation and have considerable baggage. Our destination is a hotel across Cromwell Road from the V & A Museum. Would it be better to take a taxi from KC or try the rail to Victoria Station?

The V& A Museum is right at the South Kensington Tube station (a short block N). Both Piccadilly and Circle Lines go from Kings Cross to South Kensington without any change needed. (Circle line going West). Six o'clock on a week day is likely to be busy, but you will generally be getting on before it gets too crowded. Its a long taxi ride in rush hour traffic. Your hotel location (and Tube accessibility) is great when you dont have luggage

If it is considerable there is no way I would take the Underground, peak hour travel or no peak hour travel.

If I had "considerable baggage," I would tend to avoid going by Underground at any time but especially at rush hour. And presumably ("we") you are multiple people? I suggest a taxi. Even after four trips to London, I still get a kick out of looking at the scenes and sounds of the city while being driven through the streets to my hotel. Consider the time and money spent on the cab as a site-seeing tour.

Thanks, Brian,Nigel & Matt. Good advice, I was leaning strongly toward a taxi.

Ben, I was also going to suggest a Taxi, given the fact that you have "considerable baggage". I've been on the Tube in rush hour, and the cars are VERY tightly packed, with little room for any luggage larger than a Briefcase. The London Taxi Drivers are extremely well trained and even during rush hours they'll get you to destination via the quickest possible route. Happy travels!
