In one month, we are flying into Edinburgh where we plan to visit for two days. We will then rent a car, drive south through the countryside for 5 days, staying at inns and so forth, stop in London for a few days, then west to Cranborne for a wedding. We will fly out of London, by the way. I've purchased a "30 great drives" book but any tips, suggestions, etc. will certainly be appreciated.
Thanks!
We have done several driving trips in Scotland / England. I would suggest staying more towards the east-Melrose or Dryburgh Abbey, Lindisfarne, Hadrian's Wall around Once Brewed, Yorkshire Dales, and York. Then head towards London......... Last summer, we liked the Townhouse Hotel in Melrose. You might then want a night near your Hadrian's Wall stop and two nights in the Dales. If you don't mind changing hotels each night, you might enjoy one night in the Dales, then one night in Whitby. We really like the Dean Court Hotel in York and have stayed there twice. They have a few rooms which face the front of the Minster.
Thank you!
If you think of other things, plz advise.
I dont disagree with Cynthia;s suggestion. However, after Yorkdshire, Derbyshire, it is interesting to go down the west side- lots of "black and white "buildings, Worcestershire farms and orchards, Tewkesbury Abbey, Ledbury, Wye Valley, Tintern Abbey (fantastic ruins), possibly as far West as Dunster and Selworthy, and a brief stop in Shaftsbury. you could also touch on Cotswolds.... the list is endless
