I heard that there was a sleeper train from Edinburgh to London. Has someone ridden it before and have details or suggestions?
The Man in Seat 61, the top trustworthy source for train travel info, has a whole page devoted to the Caledonian Sleeper, with excellent photos. He spent his career working for British Rail. After reading the Caledonian Sleeper page, spend a few minutes reading his 'About Me' page - cool guy. http://www.seat61.com/CaledonianSleepers.htm#.UaJBwqa9LCQ
In my view the Caledonian sleeper services really come into their own on the longer trips beyond Edinburgh and Glasgow. Bear in mind that you can be at Kings Cross station in London just 4 hours 20 minutes after leaving Edinburgh Waverley on a daytime train. On the other hand, if you've never been on a sleeper before then there's no reason not to do it. It isn't even very expensive if you get Advance tickets. As mentioned, The Man in Seat 61 is the fount of all knowledge.
