First trip to Scotland - planning on going to Glasgow from Edinburgh via train.
No seat reservations at this time - is it too early or are they not necessary?
Would be a morning departure and an afternoon return the following day.
Final destination via bus is Inveraray Castle!!
It's a commuter service - no reservations
Ok - thank you for the information.
It's a quick train ride and easy to buy tickets for. As stated above, just go to the station, buy your ticket and hop on. No need for reservations or booking ahead.
If you have any questions when you get there (and you probably will), just ask someone who works there. They are very friendly and happy to help.
You might want to look at the YouTube series Planes, Trains, Everything. The guy lives in Scotland and has some very detailed episodes on transportation, as well as points of interest and "off the beaten path" adventures.
You can make things easy by purchasing your tickets from the Scotrail website or app.

I was in Scotland this past May and always purchased my tickets before leaving my hotel room. That way, I could walk into the station and go directly to the platform. No need to mess around with ticket machines and worry if my credit card would work.
Have a great trip!!
